Challenge I One Light I Senior Pictures

Model I Juaquesha Smith

Hair and make-up artist I Dana Michele

These are the final selections for our first monthly challenge on senior pictures. We will be working on these challenges throughout the year with our senior model team. We will be given various challenges and submit our images for critique by “We Are The Seen” a group of elite photographers from around the country focused on finding “The Undiscovered” We are very proud to be apart of We Are The Seen and will be offering submissions to “The 12” with our senior sessions this year.

I wanted to shoot a glamour look in an industrial setting. I had shot at this old industrial incinerator in the past and thought it would be perfect. We started the shoot with a red gown that my wife had come across in the weeks prior. Juaquesha is a super confident, athletic girl involved in cheer. She is a breeze to direct, pose and shoot.

Being prom season, Juaquesha also had a gorgeous prom dress that we decided we really wanted to shoot her in. Using only one light my immediate thought was something really dramatic. When I had her change into her prom dress the sun was getting really low in the sky. The natural light was so beautiful that I choose to do some unplanned natural light shots. Still using only one main light source these were much less dramatic, but some of my favorite from the night.

  1. This is my beautiful God-Neice! Being a model myself I have always said she could be one too! Now look here she is rocking it for the camera! Congrats on the modeling Juaquesha! I love you and fully suport you in everything you do! I am so proud of her!

  2. These turned out awesome. Not everyone is comfortable with being in front of a camera. However my daughter definitely is. I know she loves to take selfies. But modeling is so much bigger then that. Proud of you Juaquesha. Matthew definitely knows what he’s doing with photography.
